COLLINGWOOD, ON (December 21, 2009) -- Last Thursday, one day after Larisa Yurkiw hurt herself in Europe, the world received devastating news that our most experienced CAST skier from Ontario, Kelly VanderBeek was also hurt. It did not seem true just one day after learning that Larisa would not make it to 2010.
Kelly, a B.C. resident for some time now, has always supported her grassroots, namely the Chicopee Ski Club. Just recently we finished posting a video on YouTube of her supporting Ontario and her hometown club (click here). We had also just finalized an ad for a Waterloo newspaper supporting her road to the Olympics. Kelly has always told us with that great smile of hers that the Ontario hills should not be considered an obstacle to success. "If you can do 4 turns you can do 100!"
Join us in sending Kelly your best wishes. Please note this BLOG is live so your comments will rest on the website until we forward them on to Kelly.

Re: BLOG: Best wishes to Kelly VanderBeek
Kelly, I saw you a few times at the start for the training runs and race runs at Lake Louise, and you did the three video clips for me at the Brewster Barn event (one for Alpine Ontario, one for Chicopee and one for my home club -Heights of Horseshoe). I really appreciated the great job you did on the videos and have always enjoyed watching you race. I was devastated to hear about your crash and its effects on your season; I was really looking forwad to seeing you at Whistler. Having been involved in sailing in the 1976-1980 period and training with some of the people that had their Olympic hopes dashed by the 1980 boycott, I have a bit of an idea what this means to you. All I can say is that life (and competition) will carry on, and what made you the favourite racer of so many Candians before will make you their favourite again in the future. In the meantime, enjoy life and don't let it get you down.

Re: BLOG: Best wishes to Kelly VanderBeek
Wow! You must be heartbroken. Team Canada will be working hard to perform despite your absence. After the healing is started I hope you find another channel for your efforts, whether it be getting back to recovery and fitness, writing, teaching or speaking, or something else. (The 'new door is opened' syndrome.) Best wishes to you and all of your family this season. A.H.

Re: BLOG: Best wishes to Kelly VanderBeek
Kelly, The news of your crash spread accross the fall camp at Tremblant in a nano second. Everyone felt the heart break of all your preparation for this season being left on that track at Val d'Isere. Your news conferences and blogs since the accident show your courage and resolve to carry on and pursue your dreams regardless of the setbacks. This is true inspiration for the kids at Chicopee that are so proud of you and your connection to their development. Thanks Kelly, get well soon, John, Chicopee Ski Racing
