DAY 3 MIELE ONTARIO FIS CHAMPIONSHIPS
COLLINGWOOD, ON (January 26, 2010) – The rain finally fell on day three of four in the Miele Ontario FIS Championships creating new challenges for the 100 men and 50 women on course yesterday at the Georgian Peaks Ski Club. Rain or shine, the GS race will remain a special one for Ontario Development Team’s Emily Goad (Arva/Osler Bluff Ski Club) as it was her first ever win on the FIS circuit. Curtis Lush (Collingwood) from the Toronto Ski Club won the men’s race marking his return to the FIS circuit after two weeks off due to the swine flu.
Goad has recently moved into the top 5 on the FIS circuit with some solid performances in the recent Quebec GMC races. She was 4th in the Le Relais SL Jan 10th and 2nd and 3rd in the GS races prior to this at Mont Ste. Anne. Following Goad on the podium was National Ski Academy’s Shannon Campbell (Clarksburg) and Quebec’s Stephanie Gould (Ottawa). Goad won the race in 1.38.91, Campbell in 1.39.51 and Gould in 1.40.06.
Following Lush with another solid result was Ontario Development Team racer Mike Bisnaire (Toronto) from Georgian Peaks Ski Club in second spot and another podium for AOA Ontario Ski Team member Morgan Megarry (Collingwood) in 3rd place. Curtis won the race in 1.36.33 ahead of Bisnaire in 1.37.75 and Megarry 1.37.86
Lush, leaving last night to rejoin his USA FIS team reflected on his win.
“This is my first race back after the flu so it felt great to win. Number 4 is my lucky start number and the first run was amazing, the snow was perfect despite the warm weather. I skied smart and had a 1 second lead going into the 2nd run so I knew what had to be done and just did it.”
Bisnaire also won Sunday’s SL race at Alpine. “I simply didn’t make any mistakes and finally managed to put two solid runs together just like I did at Alpine.” Reflecting on Sunday’s win Bisnaire admitted how great this felt. “Wiining was great, it was a matter of letting all the others make mistakes while I did not. Having two weeks at home helped, we trained here and I was able to catch up after so much travelling in December.”
Racing continues today with a final GS run at Georgian Peaks.
