PHYSICAL EDUCATION CREDITS FOR ALPINE ONTARIO SKIERS
2010/2011

PHYSICAL EDUCATION CREDITS will be offered to Alpine Ontario FIS Athletes through the Pretty River Academy, Collingwood. The program will consist of two focus physical education credits – one credit based on the sport of skiing and one credit based on fitness training. This is a terrific opportunity for the FIS athlete to earn school credits for his/her extensive ski training and fitness programs while gaining a greater understanding of the theory behind the program.  FIS athletes who miss school to train and race may be able to reduce their in-school credit load and build a study period into their timetable to catch up on their in-school courses.

The AOA staff, Nancy Esson, President, Thomas Lam, Fitness Director, Jeff Lackie and Thomas Erhard, Head Coaches, the Escarpment Team staff, Graeme Buckrell, Director, Greg Grossmann, Head Coach and Sarah Applegarth, Fitness Director and the TSC Alpine Programs Manager, Jeff Jones are very supportive of the program. I will collaborate with them to link program activities and materials (e.g. existing log books) that will support their goals for the athletes while meeting the curriculum expectations.   The athlete’s on-hill coach and the fitness supervisor will assess the athlete’s achievement of the expectations for the activity portion of the credits.

ELIGIBILITY:
FIS Athletes, in Gr. 10, 11 or 12, who are registered in a competitive ski program involving both a ski training component and a supervised fitness training component where they will accumulate 110 hrs of ski training/competition and 110 hrs of fitness training between the beginning of July and the end of December are eligible to enroll in the credits.
