2011 Winter Universiade Selection Criteria

1. ELIGIBILITY
Selection to participate in the 2011 Winter Universiades competition is open to all University students (women and men) according to the FISU eligibility rules.
2. NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS
The Team will be composed of 6 males and 6 females but the Selection Committee reserves the right not to fill the quota if not enough athletes are qualified for this level of competition. The Committee also has the right to name more than 6 males and 6 females in the event where some of the athletes selected have the potential to perform well only in certain events.
3. ATHLETE SELECTION
Athletes will be selected by Alpine Canada Alpin Universiade Selection Committee. This committee will include:
-ACA National Athletic Director
-1 Canadian Ski Coach Federation (CSCF) Representative
-Previously Selected Winter Universiade Team Leader & Head Coach
4. CRITERIA
- Athletes will be selected according to the most recent FIS points list available of season 2010-2011 and all other FIS race results occurring before December 1, 2010
- Athletes will be selected in accordance with their world ranking in giant slalom plus their next best discipline;
- Athletes will be selected in accordance with their past experience in racing in speed events
- Athletes will be selected in such a fashion to ensure that at least 50% of chosen males and females are currently attending a Canadian Interuniversity Sport member university
- Athletes will need a valid FIS card;
Athletes will need to have participated in a minimum of two regional FIS races during the 2009-2010 season and two, or more, during the 2010-2011 season.
Priority will be given to athletes who have demonstrated potential to win medals in one or more events using the criteria listed above.
All athletes wishing to be considered to participate should send an e-mail to Jean-François Rapatel by November 26, 2010 along with a proof of completion of all the required documents: Individual Entry Form, Eligibility Form and 2 passport format photos. A scan, fax of these documents or a hard copy sent by mail can be used. Only athletes who submit in time a proof of completion of all the required documents and photos will be considered.
5. SELECTION GUIDELINES FOR COACHES
Coaches and other team staff will be selected by Alpine Canada Alpin and the Canadian Ski Coach Federation (CSCF).
All coaches wishing to apply for a coaching position should send a brief letter and coaching resume, outlining their qualifications for this assignment to Jean-François Rapatel by September 1st, 2010.
