OST Blog: Summer 2010 by Emily Goad This summer has been quite similar to my last in that I no longer have to go to summer school!, I’m working out in the gym, training for track and field, working at a shoe store, and enjoying the awesome hot summer weather we’ve been having! I thought that I’d talk a little bit about track. I certainly can’t give you all of the super technical in depth details that Jeff did about all of the different forces and angles, etc. so I’m glad that he has already covered that. I’ve been doing long jump and triple jump since about grade 3 when I was introduced to it at my elementary school. I decided to join the London Western Track and Field Club to get some extra training and a bit of a competitive edge over my classmates. I now train with the girls from the Western Track team and it’s great to train with my peers. This season I focused mostly on my triple jump going to meets in Windsor, Toronto, and then out to Moncton New Brunswick for Junior Nationals over the Canada Day weekend. It was the official qualifier for World Juniors as Moncton is hosting the games this coming week. Unfortunately it didn’t go as well as I had hoped as I was and am still recovering from a bit of a back injury. Overall the experience was really great as it was my last season as a junior athlete. I’ve also been working on some fun meal ideas for this upcoming season. For those of you who don’t know me very well I love to cook! I was in Toronto for a track meet and I ended up running into Bronwyn and naturally we went into a Chapters to look for books! She suggested I buy this cookbook on barbequing pizzas and it is some of the best pizza I think that I’ve ever eaten. I’m definitely going to bring that one away on camps with me so we can enjoy some gourmet pizza abroad. If anyone else is interested the book is “Pizza on the Grill: 100 Feisty Fire-roasted Recipes for Pizza & More” by Elizabeth Carmel. Although the summer gives us some well deserved rest, I can’t wait to get back on the slopes in New Zealand come August!
