Julia Roth

Hometown: Waterloo

Age: 10/02/1992

On the Ontario Ski Team since: 2007

Ski Club: Devil’s Glen Ski Club

Equipment: Rossignol boot – Leki poles – POC Helmet

Sponsor(s): Rossignol, Leki and POC

Age you started racing and where? I began skiing at Devils Glen when I was two years old and eventually started racing when I turned 6. My parents both grew up skiing; my Dad being my role model in racing ever since I began racing

Favourite place to race? Why?
Aspen, Colorado

If you could change anything about ski racing what would it be?
I
would change the amount of injuries that happen each season from racing. I’ve been a victim of two ACL tears and surgeries and they are no fun. I wish there was a way of making the sport safer without taking away the risk factor and the fast speeds

What scares you?
Scary movies. I can’t  watch them! And of course spiders.

What is something most people do not know about you?
I used to Curl! Pretty much the lamest excuse for a sport there is (no offence to anyone who plays).

Candace Crawford

Age: 03/11/1994

On the Ontario Ski Team since: 2010

Ski Club: Georgian Peaks Ski Club

Equipment: Head skis and boots – Leki and Gabel poles – POC helmet

Sponsor: Head

Age you start racing and where?
I started racing when I was 6 years old at Georgian Peaks Ski Club

Favourite place to race?
Super G race at K2 Nationals in Silverstar because it had a really steep pitch at the end and you got great speed going off it.

What do you love most about ski racing? (what motivates you to do it?)
I love the speed, the adrenaline you get while racing down the hill as fast as you can go and the feeling you get when you finish a course that just makes you want to ski it over and over again.

Highlights:
– Won the GS at K2 Nationals and was 3rd in the Super-G
– 14th overall at Stoneham FIS Spring Series GS behind Erin Mielzynski and other national team members.

Goals this season?
To keep improving – get stronger and faster – would like to race in a Noram and ski more downhill and super-g races

Long term goal in skiing, and as a career?
At this point i am focusing on my skiing this year and improving but I am aiming for the world circuit.

What are your hobbies, interests and other sports?
Drawing, Horseback riding and reading
