Alpine Ontario is delighted to announce the launch of its high-performance Ontario Para Alpine Ski Team (OPAST). The program was created to help OPAST athletes develop their skills and achieve excellence in sport. AOA has hired Shelley Johnston to lead the program and partner with Gwen Binsfeld who has been the long time coach and team manager for para athletes in Ontario and David White, ACA NextGen Coach.
Shelley has over 25 years’ experience in the ski industry. She has coached internationally, honing her skills in Japan and Europe. Shelley was a National Team Captain and made history when she and a colleague formed the first female coaching team at the 2013 World Championships. Shelley’s dedication to her athletes is evidenced by their performance; her athletes improve during the season and retain a passion for skiing throughout their lives.
