Join the AOA Strava Weekly Challenge now to keep moving, stay fit and enjoy the outdoor winter months (even if we can’t be on our skis).  Strava is a free movement and fitness app and social network, accessible through both mobile apps and the web.  The app is free and you are not required to pay for a subscription to participate in AOA’s Challenge.  Log your walks, hikes and runs on an on-line app called Strava and be entered to win AOA sponsors gift cards and prizes.  Top overall male and female AOA member each week will win and each AOA member that logs 5km will be entered into a weekly random draw for a AOA sponsor gift cards and/or prizes.  So if you log 50km you will be entered into the draw 10 times.  Join the AOA Strava Weekly Challenge, move outdoors and create some competition within your clubs virtually and with your fellow athletes across the province!  This challenge will start Monday Jan 18 for 4 weeks with the final day of logging mileage on Sunday Feb 14.  Each week’s challenge will re-set on Sunday evening at midnight.  If the challenge is a success we will continue through the remainder of the season.

A few things to note before you get started logging your activities:

  • AOA encourages you to get outdoors with your families and household bubbles only
  • To participate and win a Sporting Life gift card you must be a member of AOA
  • Please do not trespass on private property – your trespassing will be on display for everyone to see!
  • At this time only walks, hikes and runs will count on Strava
  • Please use your name and not a nickname on your Strava profile – if we can’t identify you we can’t give you a prize!

How to Sign Up

The Strava app will be utilized for our challenges. It uses GPS location and will log distance, time, and elevation for all hikes (please note: you can turn off your data option for this app and it will still log your activity accurately, but will wait to upload until you log back in to WiFi).

To download the app, you can visit your App Store on your phone or device and search “Strava: Run, Ride, Swim” to download the free app. Simply create an account, search for the applicable AOA age group club or click the URL below that applies to your age:

Before you walk, hike or run to make sure you select the correct activity. Under the Record option, there is an icon to the left of the start button where you can select type of activity – please ensure you choose RUN (if it is logged under hike or walk, it won’t be recognized on the leaderboard). I’m sure it goes without saying, but don’t forget to press START once you begin and STOP once you’re done hiking!

Follow AOA on Instagram and Facebook and tag us in your socially distanced activities #aoaski.  See you on the trails and hopefully hills soon!
