FUNDRAISING INITIATIVES

OUR MISSION

  1. BUILDING PATHWAYS FOR WOMEN IN SKI RACING

Are you aware that by age 14, girls drop out of sport at twice the rate as boys? Or that a girl that does not participate in sport by the age of 10 that there is only a 10% chance that she will be active later in life?  How about the statistic that only 25% of coaches in Canada are female, and the gap is even greater at the high-performance level?

These are the relevant questions for Clubs and AOA alike that are driving our focus for the 2024 Women’s Nor-Am Series!

The event is designed to unite women from every corner of the ski racing realm and offer a clear and relevant pathway. Designed to celebrate their diverse roles in athletics, coaching, and officiating. Our goal is to underscore the significance of each woman’s contribution, providing a platform for coaches and officials to showcase their skills, enhance their expertise, and achieve higher levels of certification.

In conjunction with our Women in Coaching initiative, we are proud to collaborate with Mackenzie Investments to launch SheSkis, a hybrid on-hill and in-chalet session program tailored for young female athletes. This initiative offers them the invaluable opportunity to collaborate with remarkable female athletes and coaches, emphasizing that there is a meaningful place for every woman in the skiing world.

Event Outcomes:

  • To provide a pathway for young girls to stay in the sport longer
  • To increase the number of female coaches in the province
  • To increase the number of female officials in the province
  • To inspire women to leave a legacy for future athletes to succeed in skiing and life
  1. BRIDGING THE GAP

Our national sports system has shifted focus, resulting in a lack of funding and an inability to support a full-time Canadian Alpine National Development ski team and C team program. This has created a significant gap in the pathway for Ontario’s high-performance athletes.

Alpine Ontario is proactively working to address this need so that we can build a sustainable and thriving pipeline for athletes through our program development system and onward to their World Cup and Olympic dreams.

Your help Bridges the Gap:

An AOA bursary of up to $15,000 for athletes in the hunt for Nor-Am event titles and World Cup spots. Allow AOA to target critical funding to senior Ontario Athletes attending U21 National Projects (NextGen, etc.).
