Collingwood, ON (April 26th, 2018) –Alpine Ontario Alpin (AOA) is pleased to announce the Ontario Ski Team’s (OST) debut weekend ahead with two days of fitness testing at the Canadian Sport Institute of Ontario (CSIO). The CSIO will provide the OST with physical testing, injury prevention screening, physical conditioning program design and sport science support. The CSIO is based out of the Toronto Pan Am Center. The goal of the OST conditioning program is to reach elite fitness levels, including a focus on injury prevention and the general health of our athletes.

Upon completion of the CSIO Testing and the opening 10 day camp on May 19th in Mammoth Mountain, California, athletes will be formally invited to join the 2018/19 OST Training group. In total, the Training Group will complete four weeks of conditioning camps, plus their day to day individual, or group workouts prior to November, along with 50 days of on snow training.

Also joining this weekend at the CSIO will be AOA’s new U19 High Performance (HP) athletes who have been selected to join the program for the 2018/19 inaugural season. The HP program is designed to enhance the level of programming for regional FIS Team athletes who are committed to pursue ski racing at a high performance level.

Selection to the HP Group is based on results for graduating U16 athletes at the 2018 U16 Sport Chek National Championships and/or the 2018 U16 Can-Am event in Mont Tremblant, Quebec.  As well, for FIS level athletes based on their National Ranking by age in two disciplines.

The function of the HP group is to provide additional training opportunities with the Ontario Ski Team (OST) as well as:

  • Bring like-minded athletes together to enhance their training and race experience.
  • Early integration and introduction to the OST program and staff.
  • Access and leverage available resources through the Canadian Sport Institute of Ontario (CSIO)

Specifically these training opportunities with the OST will include:

  • A dryland weekend at the CSIO Pan Am Centre in Toronto, April 28-29
  • October training camp in Europe.

In total AOA and the CSIO will be hosting over 25 athletes this coming weekend.

Kip Harrington, OST Head Coach and Program Director comments, “It is hard to believe our 2018-19 season is starting this weekend but I know I speak for both Katie and Cam when I say we are really excited to be working with this talented group of athletes. We are also very excited to be working with the CSIO’s world class facility and staff which will be incredible for AOA.

  • End –
