New Appointment of Sean Miller as Provincial Technical Delegate

It is my pleasure to congratulate Sean Miller of Beaver Valley in his accomplishment in becoming a Provincial Technical Delegate here in Southern Ontario Division.

Sean has been involved in ski racing for many years, first as a race parent and race official volunteer, now purely as a race official volunteer as his son is now a U10 coach. Sean started at Chicopee with the Kelly Vanderbeek Racing club then moved to Beaver Valley in 2016. Since joining the Beaver Valley Crew he has worked very hard to gain as much knowledge as possible from the many experienced race officials at Beaver Valley as well as visiting race officials to the club. During his 4 years at Beaver Valley, he has taken and achieved his Level 2 and Level 3 Officials accreditations. Sean has held many different Alpine roles as a race official at Beaver Valley, Chief of Race, TD, CoC, Gate Judge and Maintenance Crew. He has also held many roles as a Ski Cross Official at the Club.

This year Sean took the opportunity to travel to Alberta to work the World Cup Ladies Downhill at Lake Louise as an Official and he also volunteered to help the hard-working crew at Craigleith during the Women’s Nor-Am Dual Slalom as a visiting official. On top of what he’s done at and for the Beaver Valley Ski Club over the past 2 years, Sean has also taken the opportunity to shadow several Provincial Technical Delegates during OCUP events at other clubs, further gaining the knowledge and experience needed to become Southern Ontario’s newest certified Provincial Technical Delegate.

Tom Vincent and Chris Daniels of Beaver Valley, upon receiving news of Sean’s accomplishment stated, “Beaver Valley and the Beaver Valley Race Crew are extremely happy and proud to have Sean as part of our team. He will represent the Beaver Valley Ski Club and Alpine Ontario very well. He is certainly one of the hardest working crew we have, always available to help where needed.”

Thank you, Sean, for your time and dedication to supporting our community.

Accolades to our National Technical Delegate Retiree, Al Hagerman.

We wish to thank and acknowledge Al Hagerman, for his years and dedication of service to supporting Alpine Ontario as an Alpine Canada Technical Delegate (TD). This past January, Al was celebrated at the Podborski Cup at Craigleith, as this was his final assignment as a TD. Al has shown his love for Alpine Racing by supporting an uncountable number of races in our community. Additionally, as a long time member of the Alpine Race Crew and manager of the crew for over 10 years, Al Hagerman has been instrumental to the success of racing at the Alpine Ski Club as well.

Tobin Walsh and Alain Doutre of the Alpine Ski Club Race Crew shared, “We are proud that Al dedicated so much of his time to Ski Racing in Ontario, travelling to hills all over to bring high-quality, safe and equitable races to athletes everywhere. Al brings consistency and reliability to ski racing that we continue to depend on at Alpine Ski Club. While Al will no doubt be missed by Alpine Ontario as a TD, we are certain you’ll still see him here and there and especially at his home club keeping racing moving “downhill”.

While it is sad to see Al move on to new and challenging endeavours, we can’t help but wish him every happiness and give him our sincere thanks for what he has given of himself to Alpine Racing.
