Equipment and Baggage

Athletes will travel with a personal duffle only.  Athletes are responsible for paying for any bags that are checked onto any of the flights $27.50+ taxes per bag.  2 items of carry-on baggage are complimentary, and must fit in the sizing device at check-in (maximum size 55x40x23 cm) and weight 20 lbs.  All skis should be loaded onto truck beforehand. Alpine Ontario has made arrangements for a truck to travel to Thunder Bay via Ottawa to collect and drop off the athlete’s skis.  The following is the schedule for the pickup and drop off times and locations:

  • Friday February 17th in Collingwood (Metro parking lot) @ 8am
  • Friday February 17th in Toronto @ 11am – Miller Tavern on Yonge St south of York Mills
  • Friday February 17th in Ottawa @ 5pm – Westgate Shopping Centre  (right off the highway)

In addition, Alpine Ontario have scheduled an Ontario Parent Meeting on Wednesday 22nd 5.00pm to 6.00pm at the Victoria Inn in the Kensington Room.

A full training schedule will be posted once this has been decided at the Captain’s meeting on Saturday Feb 18th.

Team Wear

Karbon Jackets will be sent directly to the Victoria Inn where athletes can pick them up on Sunday Feb 19.  The model is the Edison in grey (same as the Can-AM jacket last year) and the unisex sizing chart can be seen here.  Sizing ranges from XXS-XXL.  The jackets are also to be worn at the upcoming Can Am event.

Coaching Staff

Alpine Ontario will be sending 8 coaches and 2 support staff to the U16 Nationals.  The 2-support staff will be driving the equipment truck and will be offer support to the athletes and coaching staff during the event.

The coaching staff have been selected from the following criteria

  1. Are currently working within the age group (u16)
  2. Current up to date coaching License
  3. Number of athletes that have been selected from each club/division

Flights, accommodations, lift tickets, jacket and food will be covered by the athletes attending.  Coach salaries will be paid by each club.

Team Captains

Divisions and Club have been asked to nominate a Team captain. An individual who they feel have the leadership and qualities to represent the Athletes and Ontario.

The roles and responsibilities are outline in the job description that has been circulated across the Province and currently posted on AOA website.

Seeding

Seeding for the event will be held on Monday February 19th.  All the information for these time trials will be communicated via the coaches to the Athletes once the time and locations have been confirmed at the Captains Meeting.

Budgeted Cost for the trip is $1800.00 (not including HST where applicable) which includes flight ($350) from Toronto, accommodations and race fee and all meals for 6 days ($1180), ski transportation ($50), team jacket ($100), coach expenses ($160) and miscellaneous expenses (gas, food etc.).  Upon request, AOA can arrange air travel for NCD and NOD athletes to Toronto for additional cost.  AOA will require the attached Team/ Athlete Agreement and a $1000 deposit paid by Tuesday Feb 14th at noon by cheque, cash or credit card (VISA/Mastercard) by each athlete/family.
